How to setup custom domain for blogger

To set up a custom domain for a Blogger blog, you'll need to follow a few steps. This involves configuring your domain registrar's settings and Blogger settings. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Purchase a Domain Name

If you haven't already purchased a custom domain, you'll need to do this through a domain registrar. Popular domain registrars include Namecheap, GoDaddy, Google Domains, and many others. Choose a domain name that you want to use for your Blogger blog.

Step 2: Configure DNS Settings

  1. Log in to your domain registrar's account.
  2. Locate your domain in your account dashboard and find the DNS settings or DNS management section. This may be called something like "DNS Management," "Domain Management," or "Manage DNS."
  3. In the DNS settings, find the option to create or edit DNS records. You'll need to add two types of records:
    • CNAME (Canonical Name) Record:
      • Add a CNAME record with the name "www" and point it to "ghs.google.com" (this associates the www version of your domain with your Blogger blog).
    • A (Address) Record:
      • Add an A record with the name "@" (or leave it blank) and point it to the IP address "216.239.32.21." Repeat this step to add three more A records with the following IP addresses: "216.239.34.21," "216.239.36.21," and "216.239.38.21."

Step 3: Configure Blogger Settings

  1. Log in to your Blogger account.
  2. In your Blogger dashboard, click on the blog you want to set up with a custom domain.
  3. Navigate to the "Settings" > "Basic" section.
  4. Under "Publishing," you will see an option to set up a custom domain. Click on the "Set up a third-party URL for your blog" link.
  5. Enter your custom domain (including the www) in the provided field and click "Save."
  6. Blogger will display an error message along with two CNAME records. These are the CNAME records you need to add to your DNS settings with your domain registrar.

Step 4: Add CNAME Records

Go back to your domain registrar's DNS settings:

  • Add the first CNAME record provided by Blogger. It should have a name or alias of "www" and point to "ghs.google.com."
  • Add the second CNAME record provided by Blogger. It should have a name or alias of a long string of characters.
  • Save your DNS settings.

Step 5: Complete the Configuration in Blogger

Go back to your Blogger settings:

  1. In Blogger, under "Settings" > "Basic," click on the "Save" button next to your custom domain.
  2. It may take some time (up to 48 hours) for the DNS changes to propagate across the internet. During this time, your blog may still be accessible via the Blogspot subdomain.
  3. Once the DNS changes have fully propagated, your Blogger blog will be accessible through your custom domain.

Keep in mind that the process may vary slightly depending on your domain registrar. If you encounter issues, consult your registrar's support or Blogger's official documentation for more guidance.
